The Padron certificate is essential for accessing healthcare, enrolling children in school, registering a car, and proving local residency in Torrevieja. Without it, many administrative processes in Spain become impossible.

What Is the Padron Certificate?

It’s an official document that registers you with the local municipal census in Torrevieja. It proves where you live and is required for many legal and public services.

Who Needs the Padron in Torrevieja?

Anyone living in Torrevieja for more than 90 days per year — whether renting or owning — should register on the Padron.

What Services Require the Padron?

To access the following, you must show a valid Padron:

  1. Public healthcare (SIP card)

  2. School registration

  3. Spanish driving licence application

  4. Vehicle registration

  5. Residency or TIE card application

  6. Council tax and local service registration

How Often Must You Renew the Padron?

  • EU citizens: Every 5 years

  • Non-EU citizens: Every 2 years
    Even without a change of address, renewal is still mandatory.

What Documents Are Required?

Bring the following to the Town Hall in Torrevieja:

  1. Passport and NIE

  2. Rental contract or title deed

  3. Recent utility bill

  4. Completed application form

Steps to follow

Request an appointment:
You can do so through the official website of the Torrevieja City Council or by calling the telephone number provided for this purpose.

Go to the City Council:
Present the documentation on the date and time assigned. The department in charge will verify the data and process your registration.

Collect your Padron certificate:

In some cases, they will give you the certificate immediately. In others, you can collect it a few days later or request that it be sent to you by email.
